Some Things Do Not Hurt, Even If They Get in My Eyes

I live
Because some things do not hurt, even if they get in my eyes
Like when a purple potato flower first opens,
when I hear the first fluttering of a small, white butterfly,
Or, when, from a root in the hopeless dark, a tear-drop shaped seed first sprouts

It’s fresh, lovely, sweet, tear-wrenchingly touching, marvelous.
I feel glad, satisfied, proud, thrilled, moved, fascinated, and overwhelmed with emotion.

I cry
Because some things do not hurt, even if they get in my eyes.

As a thirsty camel
Chewing acacia thorns, piercing its tongue and throat,
And slakes its thirst with its own blood;
And, doing so, tears wash its eyes clean
while sand in the desert is cleaned, grain by grain, like the stars

A road appears in my eyes,
Step by step, because of things that get in the way of this road,
I am disappointed, sad, hateful, frustrated, unsatisfied, aghast, upset, desolate, overwhelmed with fury, resentful, worried, and fearful

Because of the feathers wet in the clouds
In my vast heart, wings appear in my eyes,
