나무 한 그루
내 棺으로 쓰일 나무가
어딘가에서 크고 있다
한 그루 한 그루
뿌리를 지키는 일이
얼마나 아름다운 산을 이루는가
하늘의 품은 하도 넓어서
나뭇잎 간혹 새처럼 치솟는다
밑가지를 버리고 순을 틔우는 나무
껍질에 딱딱한 벌레를 감사며 그늘을 내려놓는
나무는 내가 해야 할 모든 것을 경험한다
목숨을 걸어야 내 할 수 있는 일
나는 누구의 따뜻한 棺이 될 수 있을가
나를 집으로 삼을 벌레들아
여기 나이테만 촘촘한 괴목이 있다
내 棺으로 쓰일 나무 한 그루
어딘가에서 하늘을 보고 있다

A Tree
Somewhere,
A tree, which will be used for my coffin
Grows.
How beautiful a mountain can be if the roots of its trees are kept healthy!
Because of a broad sky
Sometimes leaves fly high like birds.
Where branches fall, new growth sprouts,
A tree’s bark embraces a beetle,
A tree casts a shadow,
It does all that I should do.
A tree does such things, taking risks —
Whose warm coffin can I be?
Beetles that may use me as their home in the end:
Here, is a tree, aged and useless.
Somewhere,
A tree, which will be used for my coffin,
Is looking at the sky
