옛날 수첩을 보다가 고개가 빛처럼 굴절된다.
아인슈타인의 ‘E=MC2’
내가 보기에 유사 이래 세계 최고의 시!
현실은 빛이라는 상상력에 의해
혁명적 에너지로 전환된다는 것을
이처럼 간명하게 보여준 시는 아직 없다.
현실은 그 자체가 거대한 에너지고
그것이 빛을 만나 이 세상을 폭발시킨다.
그러나 광속은 초속 30만 킬로가 한계이지만
역설적으로 우주에 대한 속도제한이기도 하다.
그런데 과연 인간의 무한한 상상력은
새들보다야 더 높이 날 수 있겠지만
이 빛의 제한속도보다 더 빠른 것이 가능할까?
E=MC2
As I leaf through my old pocketbook, my neck bends like refracted light.
Einstein’s formula, E=MC2—
To me, it is the greatest poem ever written!
No other has shown so succinctly
That through the imagination of light
Our reality can be transformed into revolutionary energy.
Our reality is enormous energy
That blasts the world when it meets light.
The speed limit of light is 300,000 kilometers per second,
Which is, ironically, also the speed limit in the universe.
Then humanity’s infinite imagination
Might fly higher than the birds, but
Would it be possible for it to fly faster than the speed of light?
이산하 시인은 민주화운동청년연합 선전국에서 활동하던 1987년 3월, 사회과학무크 <녹두서평> 창간호에 ‘제주 4·3사건’의 학살과 진실을 폭로하는 장편서사시 <한라산>을 발표해 엄청난 충격과 전율을 불러일으켰다.
